Prior to 2006, MRUN operated as an informal working committee. In early 2006, MRUN incorporated as a non-profit association in order to build on the work already begun and to broaden participation opportunities. MRUN's evolution into a formal organization will better facilitate Midwest regional cooperation to promote the growth of startup companies based on academic and clinical research. Now anyone sharing this interest at an educational or research institution may join MRUN.
The association has three classes of membership, Full, Associate and Affiliate.
-
Full members have voting privledges and must be associated with a research institution located within the original eight state region (IL, IN, IO, MI, MN, MO, OH, WI) and having at least $100 million in annual R&D expenditures as reported by NSF.
-
Associate members may be from any state or province and may be associated with any research or educational institution. Associate members do not have voiting rights and may not serve on the Board of Directors.
-
Affiliate members are legal business entities having interest in startup ventures as a means of technology commercialization from any state or province. Affiliate members do not have voiting rights and may not serve on the Board of Directors.
